This historic map is from the rare German Edition of Zebulon Montgomery Pike’s
Exploratory Travels through the Western Territories of North America… entitled Reise durch die westlichen Gebiete von Nord-America enthaltend die Tagebucher der Reisen von St. Louis, den Mississippi hinauf bis an die Quellen dieses Flusses; das Innere von Louisiana, und durch die nordostlichen Provinzen von Neu=Spanien gemacht in den Jarehn 1805, 1806 u. 1807. The work was published in Weimar in 1813.
Pike’s expedition explored America from St. Louis to the Rocky Mountains. His work had the first map of the Southwest based on first-hand exploration which is considered a milestone of mapping the American West.
