This exceptional original watercolor is by Lucinda Kingsley Kefford. Her work was bound within Richard Bowdler Sharpe’s
Birds of Paradise. She used Whatmann watermarked paper dated 1911 and modeled her watercolors after notable images from Gould’s
Birds of Australia,
The Ibis, Van Oort’s
Birds of New Guinea or
Nova Guinea,
Journal of Ornithology, and
Novitates Zoologicae. Kefford was an early owner of the work. She was from Suffolk, England and lived from 1867 to 1950. Kefford was lithographic artist and student at the Royal Society of Art.
