Description
This historic map from John W. Norie is entitled
Southern portion of the Gulf of Mexico with inset charts of Jamaica, Mobile Bay, the Harbour of Vera Cruz, the Harbour of Tampico. The map was published in London in 1836 by J. W. Norie & Co. The engraved map shows the Gulf of Mexico including all of the Caribbean islands, eastern coast of Central America, and northern coast of South America.
John W. Norie (1772-1843) was a leading English chart-maker and navigational writer. He studied under William Heather who ran the Naval Academy and the Naval Warehouse, a shop for navigators. Norie took over in 1815 and created lasting charting accomplishments.

Condition report:
The work is in very good to excellent condition overall. There is some additional creasing at the centerfold. There is a repaired split in the center fold ~ 2\" in length. There are erasable pencil lines and dates chronicling a sea voyage. There may be general signs of age and handling due to the large nature and age of the engravings. There may be a few minor imperfections or faint marks to be expected with age. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
