Description
This appealing engraving is from Conrad Wolffhart’s
Prodigiorum ac ostentorum chronicon. The work was published in Basel by Heinrich Petri in 1557.
The work featured numerous woodcut illustrations of prodigies or unusual things, omens, and wonders in nature. Many of the illustrations were completed by H. R. Manuel Deutsch and David Kandel.
Conrad Wolffhart (1518-1561) was a French philologist. He taught grammar and dialetics in Basel. He served as a deacon in the church of Saint-Leonard. He also Hellenized his name to Lycosthenes.
Condition report:
The work is in very good to excellent condition. There is image or text to verso so there may be some faint bleed through. There may be a few minor imperfections to be expected with age. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
