Description
This three volume work with 108 originally hand-colored octavo engravings is Marcus Elieser Bloch’s
Okonomische Naturgeschichte der Fische Deutschlands. The work was published in Berlin between 1783 and 1785.
The volumes are bound in tortoiseshell patterned leather with gold gilt details. There are 108 originally hand-colored fish or sea life engravings.
Marcus Elieser Bloch (1723-1799) was a medical doctor before he became fascinated with fish later in his life. He collected several of his own specimens to produce this famous work which described over 200 species of fish.
