Description
This lovely volume with 13 plates is Heinrich Balduin (Baldwin) Mollhausen’s
Reisen in die Felsengebirge Nord-Amerikas bis cum Loch-Plateau von Neu-Mexico translated
Travels to the Rocky Mountains of North America… Plateau of New Mexico. The work was published in 1861 in Leipzig by H. Costenoble.
The book is bound in three quarter leather, bands in title gilt, modern binding. It includes 12 color chromolithographs and one fold out black and white map, and one map printed within the text.
Heinrich Balduin Mollhausen (1825-1905) was a German artist and topographer. He participated in several of the leading surveys of the American west in the 1850s. This work from him was his most important, and illustrates his findings with the Pacific Railroad survey under Lieut. Amiel Whipple. The work is notable for its illustrations of New Mexico and Arizona. Of particular importance are his depictions of the Pueblo Indians.
