Johann Joachim Schwabe (1714-1784) was a German writer, translator and publisher. He published Allgemeine Historie… from 1747 to 1774 and was the most important German travelogue of the 18th Century. His work was based on the information provided from Thomas Astley’s
New general collection of voyages and travels and Antoine Francois Prevost’s Histoire générale des voyages.
Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was one of the most noted mapmakers of the 1700s. He served as the hydrographer to the French Navy at the age of 18 and was eventually named the Official Hydrogapher of the French King.
