This charming, originally hand-colored engraving is from William Macgillivray’s
The Edinburgh Journal of Natural History, and of the Physical Sciences. The work was published between 1835 and 1840 in Edinburgh & Glasgow.

William Macgillivray (1796-1852) was a Scottish naturalist and ornithologist. He was a friend to John James Audubon and wrote many of Audubon’s bird biographies between 1830 and 1839. Audubon named the MacGillivray’s Warbler after him.
