Description

This exceptionally rare, folio chromolithograph is from Eugenio Bettoni & Oscar Dressler’s
Storia naturale degli Uccelli che nidificano in Lombardia, ad illustrazione della raccolta ornitologica dei fratelli Ercole ed Ernesto Turati. The prints are of superior quality with highly detailed images and backgrounds with some featuring hand-finished color. These plates are hardly ever available as only 100 copies of the work were issued. The work was published in Milan by Pio Istituto del Patronato between 1865 and 1868.

The work features the birds of Lombardy, or Northern Italy. The plates were completed by Oscar Dressler, a German artist. The birds are shown mostly life-size and in their natural habitats often with young, nests, or eggs. Most of the prints will be sold with their accompanying text pages as well. Storia naturale degli Uccelli che nidificano in Lombardia… is considered one of the three great Italian bird books, alongside Manetti & Bonaparte.
