Encyclopedie ou Dictionnaire raisonne des sciences, des arts et des metiers, par une societe de gens de lettres. The volume was published in Paris in 1763 by Chez Briasson, David, Le Breton, and Durand.
The books is bound in 1/4 calf, marbled boards, gold gilt letter lettering, five raised bands. It features 191 engravings with uncut edges. Images depicted include tools, mechanical designs, machines, shields, alphabets, writing tools, music, architecture, building scenes, and more. It was the first work of it’s kind to feature mechanical drawings. The work truly embodied the thought of the Enlightenment with Diderot noting the goal was "to change the way people think." It became a strong reference work for the arts and sciences.
