Description

This nice botanical lithograph is from Charles Morren’s
Annales de la société royale d’agriculture et de botanique de Gand: journal d’horticulture et des sciences accessoires. The work was published in Ghent and Brussels between 1845 and 1849. The work has a mix of hand-colored lithographs and chromolithographs done by G. Severeyns or Alexander Lagarde.

Charles Morren (1807-1858) served as the editor for the work and was botanist and horticulturalist from Ghent. Morren was the director of the Botanical Garden of the University of Liege. He was the first to discover a method of artificial pollination, leading to cultivation of vanilla in French colonies.
