Description
This exquisite botanical engraving is from Hendrick Cause’s work
De Koninglycke Hovenier aanwyzende de Middelen om Boomen, Bloemen en Kruyden te Zaayen, planten, aen queeken en voort teelen. The work was published in Amsterdam by Marcus Doorninck in 1676.
Cause’s work is considered one of the finest Dutch horticultural books from the Golden Age. The plates were printed on very high quality chain-linked, watermarked paper. Each engraving was intricately created displaying beautiful contrast between light and dark. Though often printed with images to each side, this is printed with only images to one side making a cleaner presentation of the plate / image.
