This exquisite large folio bird print is from the commission of
The New-York Historical Society Edition of Audubon’s Fifty Best Watercolors. The work was done by the New-York Historical Society and Oppenheimer Editions which printed high-quality replicas in the actual size of the original watercolors used to create John James Audubon’s monumental
Birds of America. Only 200 sets of this special collection were produced. Each is printed with archival pigments on 100% rag watercolor paper.
Lucy Audubon had sold the core collection of Audubon’s to the New York Historical Society in 1863. This included 471 of John James Audubon’s original watercolors of which 435 were used to create the Havell edition of
Birds of America.
