Description
This is the exceedingly rare second edition of Geofroy Linocier’s
L’Histoire des plantes, traduicte de Latin en François. The work was published in Paris by G. Mace between 1619 and 1620. The work is seven parts bound to one volume. It featured numerous in text woodcut engravings with 239 pages plus index pages. It is in later binding signed by L. Claessens with ornamental gilding on the covers and psing, gold-stamped.
The work was based upon Pinet’s
Historia Plantarum published in 1561. Linocier updated and expanding Pinet’s work taking inspiration from Gesner’s works as well to include information on quadrupeds, birds, snakes, fish, and distillation.
Condition report:
The work is in very good to excellent condition. A few sheets have some slight staining or creasing to the margin. Overall a very clean copy. There may be a few minor imperfections to be expected with age. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
