Description

This miniature atlas is from J. U. Muller’s
Neu-außgefertigter kleiner Atlas. Oder umständliche Beschreibung deß gantzen Erden-Cräyses. The work was published in Ulm by G. W. Kuhn in 1702. This is considered the second, expanded German edition of the atlas. There are 163 engraved maps in the work. It is bound in contemporary calf, spine gilt.

King wrote of the work: "Titles were also added to fifteen of the maps which did not have them. Sixty new ones were added, having slightly wider borders with a finer outer line. A few are signed ‘G. Karsch sc.’ and he probably engraved them all… The titles of all but three of the new maps are in panels or cartouches" (King, Miniature maps online 1692) The work contains the world map in two hemispheres, 5 continent maps (North and South America separately), and North and South Poles.

Condition report:

The work is in very good to excellent condition overall. There is some occasional foxing to the pages, mostly clean. The map of Florida has a backed transverse tear. There are occasional small wormholes. The tail of the spines have been reinforced. There may be a few minor imperfections or faint marks to be expected with age. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
