Lot 59503:
Description
This originally hand-colored, naturaly history lithograph is from Paul Louis Oudart’s
Cours d’histoire naturelle, contenant les principales espèces du règne animal, classées méthodiquement. The work was published in Paris by Engelmann between 1825 and 1826. The lithographs were done by G. Engelmann after drawings by Oudart.
"Probably the most important zoological draftsmen of the first half of the century were E. Th. Blanchnard, PL Oudart and JC Werner .. Oudart is probably the most versatile and understanding of all; his preference was apparently the fish, but he has reptiles and especially mollusks and other lower animals reproduced with the same brilliance." (Nissen, Zool. Buchillstr. II, 167)
