Description
This ornately bound album contains six original unpublished oil paintings from Hablot Knight Browne a.k.a Phiz. The paintings are original illustrations depicting Charles Dickens’s work and were done circa 1860. The paintings are all presented matted in stiff card bound in blue morocco gilt with gilt edges done by Riviere & Son.
Hablot Knight Browne (1815-1882) aka Phiz was the illustrator for ten of the works of Charles Dickens. He was an English artist and illustrator. He also illustrated books for Charles Lever and Harrison Ainsworth. The works he illustrated for Dickens included David Copperfield, Pickwick, Dombey and Son, Martin Chuzzlewit and Bleak House.
Provenance: Alan L. Weiner (sold at his sale at Christies in 1996). The Martin Nason Collection of Dickensiana.
