This beautiful hand-colored, first edition lithograph is from Pierre Corneille van Geel’s
Encyclographie du Règne végétal. Sertum Botanicum. Collection des plants remarquables par leur utilité, leur élégance, leur éclat ou leur nouveauté, consistant en six cents planches soigneusement lithographiées et coloriées… par une société de botanistes. The work was published in Brussels between 1828 and 1832 by Etablissement Encyclographique.
Pierre Corneille Van Geel is often considered the editor and author, though Pierre Auguste Joseph Drapiez may have contributed or been responsible for the text. The images were near life size representations of the flowers and foliage.
