Lot 58174:
Description
This three volume work with 114 hand-colored lithographs is Edward Thomas Booth’s
Rough notes on the birds observed during twenty-five years’ shooting and collecting in the British Islands. The work was published in London by R. H. Porter between 1881 and 1887. It also features 2 colored maps.
The illustrations were drawn by Edward Neale after original specimens collected by Booth. Booth was a wealther birder and sportsman, and stuffed his specimens to mount in their natural environs in glass cases. Booth’s specimens are now housed in the Brighton Museum.
"These are very handsome folio plates whose composition is similar to those in Dresser’s book." (Jackson) Anker described the work as a “series of well written field notes accompanied by good plates.” (Anker)
