Map Title: Carte du Mexique
Description of work:
This historic map is from J. van Schley after Jacques-Nicolas Bellin and is entitled "Carte du Golphe du Mexique et des Isles de l’Amérique." It was published in 1760.
Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was one of the most noted mapmakers of the 1700s. He served as the hydrographer to the French Navy at the age of 18 and was eventually named the Official Hydrogapher of the French King. He produced numerous maps and atlases throughout his career, and helped establish France as a leading source of precise cartography.
Map Title: Carte de L’Amerique Septenttrionale
This historic map is from J. G. Barbie du Bocage and entitled "Carte de L’Amerique Septenttrionale." The map was published in the 1840s by Geographie Universelle. The maps shows North America with Texas shown as an Independent Republic.
Map Title: Amérique septentrionale
This decorative map of America is from Victor Levasseur and is entitled "Amérique septentrionale." The map was published in 1869.
