This is volume 7 of a re-bound collection with 48 hand-colored lithographs is John James Audubon’s first octavo edition of
Birds of America published in 1841. The plates were completed under the direct supervision of J. J. Audubon. The lithography and hand-coloring was completed by J. T. Bowen. This volume was rebound in black morocco.

Prints from
Birds of America are amongst the most sought after and collectible of hand-colored American prints. The first edition was the only one to be completed using strictly hand-coloring.

John James Audubon (1785-1851) is perhaps the most famous of early American naturalists.
Birds of America is one of the best examples of hand-colored work in America and is highly collectible.

Condition report:

The work is in good to very good condition overall. Some of the plates exhibit light text offset, toning, or scattered fox marks which is common to Audubon\'s works. They are mostly free of any signs of handling, better than average condition of plates overall for Audubon works. There is some light scattered foxing mostly to the text. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
