Description
This biblical engraving is from Pieter Mortier’s
Histoire des Ouden en Nieuwen Testaments, Verrykt met meer Dan Vierhonderd Printverbeeldingen in Koper Gesneeden. The work was published in Amsterdam by Mortier in 1700. The engravings are fine, dark impressions.
The work was originally printed as a Dutch history of the Bible with additional prints and maps. The images included maps, biblical scenes, and portraits of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Pieter Mortier (1669-1711) was an 18th century mapmaker, engraver, and bookseller. Mortier’s family continued to publish and sell books in the Dutch Republic for three generations.
