Description
This remarkable folio etching is from Francisco Goya’s
Revue hebdomadaire illustrée. This was from the third year of the magazine published in 1877 in Paris, London, and Ballue.
The self portrait of Goya for this work was etched by F. Milius. The other etchings were previously unpublished but first seen in this work. They were originally intended for
Los Proverbios or Disparates de Goya.
Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) was an influential Spanish painter. He served as the appointed painter of King Charles IV and Queen Maria-Luisa. His art was influenced by Rembrandt and Velasquez. Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí both named Goya as inspiration for their artistic styles.
