Description
This originally hand-colored natural history engraving is from Johann Friedrich Blumenbach’s
Abbildungen naturhistorischer Gegenstände. The work was published in Göttingen, Germany by H. Dieterich between 1797 and 1810.
Many of the original illustrations were based on specimens from Blumenbach’s natural history collection. He had one of the only collections in Europe at the time to have a platypus specimen.
