Description
This stunning, large folio cactus engraving is from Charles Antoine Lemaire’s
Iconographie descriptive des cactées: ou essais systématiques et raisonées sur l’histoire naturelle, la classification et la culture des plantes de cette famille. The work was published in Paris by H. Cousin between 1841 and 1847.
The engravings were printed in color and finished by hand by Auguste Dumenil after Louis Joseph Edouard Maubert. Maubert’s illustrations of cacti recognized as the finest depictions ever published. The work is exceedingly rare. Lemaire had intended to publish 200 plates, but only eight parts were completed with 16 plates in total.

Condition report:
The work is in very good to excellent condition. There is a faint water stain at the upper left corner. There is some light chipping, wear, or toning at the extreme edges. There may be a few minor imperfections or fox marks to be expected with age. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
