Description
This finely illustrated volume is Marc Chagall’s
Les Message Biblique. It was published in Paris by F. Mourlot in 1972.
The book is signed on the pre-title by Chagall with a dedication and dated 1973. There is one original color lithograph and numerous in text illustrations. It is in hardcover with illustrated jacket. The preface was done by Jean Chatelain.
Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was a Belarusian-French artist. His given name was Moishe Segal and was born in Belarus which was part of the Russian empire. His art was influenced by Symbolism, Fauvism, Cubism, and Surrealism. The art critic, Robert Hughes, described Chagall as "the quintessential Jewish artist of the twentieth century.
