Description
These beautifully bound volumes with 360 originally hand-colored engravings is Robert Kaye Greville’s
Scottish Cryptogramic Flora, or Coloured Figures and Descriptions of Cryptogamic Plants belonging chiefly to the Order Fungi; and Intended to Serve as a Continuation of English Botany. The work was published in 1823 in Edinburgby Maclachlan & Stewart.
This is six volumes bound to three in modern green half Morocco gilt. There are 360 originally hand-colored engravings, predominantly of fungi. Greville drew all of the specimens himself as well ascompleting the detailed text for the work.
Robert Kaye Greville (1794-1866) was a mycologist, bryologist, and botanist. He received medical training and enjoyed the studies of science and art. He was also a leading voice against slavery.
