Description
This two volume work with a map and 118 engravings is Nathaniel Willis and W. H. Bartlett’s
American Scenery; or, Land, Lake, and River Illustrations of Transatlantic Nature. From Drawings by W. H. Bartlett. The work was published by George Virtue in London in 1840.
The volumes are bound in dark green leather with gold gilt detailing. The work features two decorative frontispieces, a map, and 66 scenic engravings to volume one, and 52 engravings to volume two. The text was completed by Nathaniel Willis. The scenic views by Bartlett include Niagara Falls, the Hudson River Valley, West Point, Crow’s Nest from Bull Hill, View From Ruggle’s House, Newburgh, Peekskill Landing, and Indian Falls. There are also views of Boston, New York, Washington DC, and the Catskill Mountains.

Condition report:
The work is in good to very good condition overall. The back edges of volume two are bumped. The plates exhibit some light to moderate foxing. There may be a few minor imperfections to be expected with age. Please review the image carefully for condition and contact us with any questions.
