This historic map is from G. H. Langsdorff’s
Bemerkungen auf einer Reise um die Welt in den Jahren 1803 bis 1807 which translates to
Remarks on a trip around the world in the years 1803 to 1807. The first edition work was published in Frankfurt by Wilmans in 1812.
Georg Heinrich von Langsdorff, Baron de Langsdorff (1774-1852) was a Prussian aristocrat, physician, politician, and naturalist. He was a member of the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences. He participated in the voyages of Ivan Federovich Kruzenshtern from 1803 to 1805. At Kamschatka, he joined Nicolai Rezanov’s circumnavigation to 1807. Langsdorff’s reports and work were some of the earliest sources on Alaska and California. The work also included the first view of San Francisco, California. (Streeter 3504) The work included illustrations of Marquesas, Japan, Alaska, and California.
